70 Years of Compassionate Care: BryLin Hospital’s Legacy in Mental Health

Buffalo, NY BryLin Hospital, a pioneering inpatient mental health facility in Upstate New York, proudly celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. Founded in 1955 by Leonard Pleskow, BryLin has remained steadfast in its mission to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and comprehensive psychiatric care for the Western New York Community.

To mark this milestone, BryLin hosted an internal celebration for employees featuring food and refreshments, service award recognitions, and a commemorative gift for every staff member. The event honored the remarkable dedication of the workforce who continue to make BryLin’s mission possible every day.

BryLin Hospital has grown from a small facility on the corner of Bryant and Linwood to its current home on Delaware Avenue – evolving into a leading behavioral healthcare provider making a meaningful impact on individuals and families throughout our community.

Today, under the leadership of Eric Pleskow, CEO and son of the founder, BryLin continues to provide personalized, evidence-based treatment for children, adolescents, and adults within its 88-bed acute care psychiatric hospital. Each plan of care is tailored to meet the unique needs of those facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and other behavioral health conditions.

Meeting the Mental Health Needs of the Community

BryLin’s Child and Adolescent Treatment Program offers crisis intervention and stabilization for youth ages 5 to 17 – including a highly specialized program serving children ages 5–11, the only one of its kind in the region. The Adult Treatment Program provides short-term, person-centered care designed to promote long-term recovery and wellness.

A hallmark of BryLin’s innovation is its Center of Excellence for Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), recognized nationally as a safe and highly effective treatment for severe depression and other serious mental illnesses.

“As BryLin embarks on its 70th year serving the WNY community, I’m filled with tremendous pride reflecting on our legacy of compassionate care,” said Eric Pleskow, CEO. “Our dedicated staff, generation after generation, has built the foundation for our success, earning BryLin its reputation as a premier mental health provider.”

Guided by the belief “With HELP, There’s HOPE℠”, BryLin remains committed to accessible, patient-focused behavioral healthcare offering a supportive alternative to traditional emergency settings.
